Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik competition : RESULTS 2009
The Mumbai Science Teachers’ Association conducts Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik competition since 1981 to encourage students to take interest in science, to inculcate scientific attitude & search science talent in students.
This competition is based on scientific knowledge acquired by the students upto std. Vi and ix. Students of std. VI and IX only can participate in this competition. This competition is conducted in english, marathi and hindi Media.
This competition is conducted in three phases as described below.
Phase Description Max. Marks Duration Selection Procedure
Phase I Written test :
100 multiple choice questions based on Science & G.K. in Science 100 90 min. a) Top 7.5% students are selected for Phase II.
b) Students obtaining marks above 35 will get Passing Certificates.
Phase II Practical Test :
a) Physics
b) Chemistry
c) Biology

10 min. a) Considering marks of ph. I & Ph.II top 10% are selected for Phase III
b) All the candidates get Merit Certificates.
Phase III Interview :
a) General Interview
b) Evaluation of Action Research Report

5-10 min. a) Considering marks of Ph.I, Ph.II & Ph.III top 10% are given Gold Medals,certificates and scholarship of Rs. 700/-
b) Rest of the candidates will get silver medals, certificates and prize of Rs. 100/-
* Selection in each phase for Mumbai, Thane & Rest of Maharashtra is done separately. Also selection for each std. & medium is separate.
* For model question of the first two phases, please log on to www.msta.in.
* School which bags maximum medals is entitled for VIKRAM SARABHAI trophy and
* School from which maximum students appear for the competition gets VIDNYAN JATTHA trophy respectively for each region.
* Please encourage maximum number of students to participate.
# Entry Fee (per student)- Rs. 80/- For Mumbai & Thane region
# Rs. 100/- For Rest of Maharashtra
# Rs. 40/- For students of Muncipal schools of Mumbai and Z.P. Schools
# Rs. 10/- Late fee
How to pay
* A) For Mumbai, Pune,Thane,Nasik, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Sangali, Schools should pay the applicable fees at nearest branch of Saraswat Bank in cash only . List of Saraswat bank branches is attached.
Pay the fees in A/C NO 36750 of The GREATER BOMBAY SCIENCE TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION, Goregaon (W) Mumbai Branch by bank slip. (available in each branch). Collect stamped customer copy (Counter foil) of the slip from the bank.
* B) For schools other than above area, which can not avail the facility of Saraswat bank pay the applicable fees by D.D. drawn in favour of
the mumbai science teachers association, Payable at mumbai.
When to pay
* From 6th July 2009 to 11th July 2009.
* From 13thJuly 2009 to 18th July 2009 with late fees of Rs. 10/-per student
How to Register
* A) For quick and correct data entry ; if internet facility is available please fill up the entry form as follows :
i) Go to our website www.msta.in and click on the link “Online Entry form.”
ii) After filling up the form completely, click on the link “Submit”.
iii) Take a print out of it and get signatures of the school Principal with stamp and also of the respective students on the form.
* B) If internet facility is not available then please use a blank form and if required xerox copy of it.
i) Fill up the form after reading all the instructions.
* C) Attach the Original copy of stamped counter foil OR D.D. to the form. Keep a xerox copy of the slip with you for your reference.
* D) Submit above documents at your nearest sub center.
* E) Kindly collect brouchures for your students from the respective sub centres while submitting the entry form
Note :
1. Broucher is supplied for each student. It shows how to attempt the question & how to fill the first page of the answersheet. Please guide them.
2. Question bank is available at centres for English and Marathi medium @ Rs. 40/-.
3. Question paper includes questions based on ICSE, CBSE & SSC Syllabus.
4. There is a possibility that, students from other schools may appear for the test in your school or students from your school may go to other school. Your kind cooperation is requested.
5. Kindly take care that no malpractices are carried out during the competition.
